Attaboy! No belts roooooool!

Wondering - how does the law work? If you've got a 66 registered, but built 64 Moke, do you have to fit belts?

Aussie Winscreen.

I think for belts it's when it was first registered

Drat.... don't like belts :x well I do, but there's something very chilled and simple about just sitting 'on' your Moke and driving off 8)

But seriously, on reflection, wouldn't it be sensible to go by the build date. You wouldn't expect manufacturers to re-build all their stocks if the government of the day charges the rules after they were built. It would, perhaps,be a case for a chat with your MOT man

Same as I was thinking.... left the factory Dec 1964 and sat at AC Bulpin in Newton Abbot (who I believe - issue 132 - supplied the Devon Fire Brigade Mokes in 64/65) for a year and a half before being registered 66 and sold. Could be the one that got away  but I don't think that anyone would have fitted belts at the time to make it suitable for sale :?: I'll ask the MOT man

Be sure to argue your point with him, they don't all know everything about all the rules and often go by what they think it should be. Took me a bit to get an mot with only 1 wiper

Interesting discussion... but on the subject of build dates, my little rot box has a build date of November 11 1965 but had no seat belt mounts.. not even anything rudimentary built into the hull. Granted it was dispached as LHD to Philidephia on thanksgiving day 1965.

1965 Austin Moke - Rust was not free, I paid dearly for it
1961 Morris Traveller - Bent but repairable
1960 Morris saloon.. err wagon.. err Pickup, yeah that's it! - My first car
1980 Mini 95 Van shell - pickup load floor donor

Are there reinforcement plates in the rear inner wings near the rear shock mounts? These were introduced in beginning of 1965 I believe. In the Body Parts Manual, they are parts 48, 49 and 50 (that is the rear wing reinforcement plate).
