Rear bumper mounts

Post by Pete »

Hi All,

I am looking at making up a spare wheel holder and jerry can holder. I have a californian style rear bumper but I think the previous owner liked to make his own everything. I am pretty sure my mounts are not factory. I was hoping some one might be able to assist with identifying the issues with the mounting, so that I can correct them before fabricating my additions.

I think what they have done is cut a standard rear bar to reuse the mounts the welded (poorly) drop brackets to lower the cali bar.

This is what I have.

The mounts look all wrong for an Aussie rear bumper, where are you based? I will see if I can photo mine tomorrow, for you. Where are you based?

From late 79 on, the Aust Mokes had the 'under' bumper mounts, similar to what your rear bar is, but that has home made brackets, this is one photo I have on file

but I'm guessing this is something along the lines of what you've got in mind

Old Mokers never die, they just smell that way.

Thanks everyone.

Yep I based in Adelaide South Australia.
The setup in Spiders last image looks similar to what I am looking at doing. Looks like the same kind of brackets I have. Also, looks like my towbar tongue has been bent to suit the incorrect mounting. I'll straighten her up and see what I can get to fix the home made bits.

Thanks again. appreciate all the comments.
