Australian floor mats

Post by Daniel »

Hi,
does anybody know where to get the Australian floor mats in Europe?

So far I found them only at Mini and Moke World in Australia or Minimania in US. That makes shipping extremely expensive.

Thanks for any hints.

Hi Daniel,
I gave up trying to find the proper stuff and bought this from e-bay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rubber-Hollow ... 8847wt_984
It was enough to do both front and back and was easy to cut and fit, does the job ok too and its not expensive.

Hi Daniel. Try talking to Leo jack at Mokepanels.com. he brings stuff in from Australia on a regular basis. He maybe able to help. Mine came from Andrew at Mini & Moke World along with my seats. I got them into a friends container who was returning from Oz. The mats could come back as baggage. Do you know anybody going out on holiday?

There's nothing magic about Moke floor mats - its called tube matting. Strangely a bit of googling suggests that you don't seem to have it in the UK. I can buy it anywhere here, a lot of hardware shops have a cheap version of it, but yacht and commercial fishing chandlers and specialist rubber suppliers have the better stuff. Its quite expensive though. It mainly comes in blue on black, but you can get black on black pretty easily and there are other colours too.

I have heard that its not exactly the same as the original stuff used by Leyland Australia, apparently the spacing of the tubes isn't quite the same. Also, its not that good. Grit and sand falls through it and gets ground into the paintwork in the footwells. The crossways tubes on the bottom rub through the paint in lines. I use it in my Moke to disguise the fact that the floors have been replaced with flat sheet.

I remembered that there's also the Choke option.

These are available through Moke Australia (the Choke importer) and through Minisport Australia. They are claimed to fit into any model Moke, but people report that they go a bit far up the sides and aren't symmetrical, possibly due to the oddly shaped tunnel in the floor of the Chokes.

Before I moved to Oz where tube matting grows on trees, I noticed my local swimming pool used the same matting I had in my Moke.
Although this isn't the tube matting referred to above, I have seen it in use in many Mokes both here and in the UK. Was this type also fitted at the factory I wonder?

Hi Daniel,
The stuff I used has little round 'pins' on the bottom which keep it from rubbing the painted floor, I did the whole floor front and back withh a piece 1m x 1.5m at a cost of £22 delivery in the UK was free as well.

I got some from RunAMoke this past winter. E-mail them to see if they still have some in stock.

Hi all,
thanks for all the answers. I will contact RunAMoke and Leo for the original ones although I also like the solution from Chris.
I was also looking for tube mats without Moke specification but it seems they are mainly used in AU and NZ but not in Europe.

yes, weird isn't it, I'm sure you have wet floors in Europe too.
As I said above you won't get an exact match of the original mats. I reckon the mats that are being sold are just cut out of the modern material which is said to be slightly different.

I could source the material for you, but it is expensive, then the freight would be a killer because its quite heavy.

Thanks for your offer but as you stated the freight would be a killer argument. Let´s wait what RunAMoke or Leo can organize. I will contact them within the next few days.
