Number of seats.

Post by Martin108 »

The plate on my Moke states its a two seater, I want to make it a four seater. Is this simple to sort out?

Yeah, dead simple. Just get your spanner’s out and bolt a pair in there :D At least that’s the case in the uk, I’m not sure where you are based though

Sounds like you have an Aussie Moke, these had a plate stating the number of seats. As Nigel says, in the UK, get your spanners out, but tell the insurance company you have a 4 seater.

Thank you for you replies. I am based in Northern Ireland. I do have an Aussie Moke (1976). I'm trying to keep it as standard as possible but do want to put additional seats in it. What about seat belts? I don't want to fit a roll bar, will I get away with lap seat belts?

I suppose really it will depend on the mot man and your ability to convince him  I fitted a piece of plate steel to the mounting that raises the inertia reel while allowing the other end of the lap bel to mount in the original position. This is a three point fixing (of sorts) and seems to satisfy the inspector

Weren't all Mini Mokes manufactured as 4 seaters?

Nope. Example, if you bought a new MK1 back in the day all you got was a drivers seat. Front passenger and rear seats were optional extras

An evening or two spent reading “Moke, The history” the book that was sent to all members free of charge a while ago will enlighten you on this and many other salient points

Thanks for reminding me.

For the benefit of others, is the publication still viable and how does/can one get it?
