Fuel pump and wires

Post by Doug G »

I removed it and my son tested it on an external electrical supply.

OK the fuel pump works. So it is not fuel.

Need to test the electrical supply to the pump.

Any sequence that I should, or is best to, follow?
  • Check fuse.
    Check . . . . .
PS What is black and crinkley and is attached to wires?

Doug G practicing his (non-existent) electrical skills.

Australian Mokes used mechanical fuel pumps, they tend to be very reliable compared to SU fuel pumps with their dodgy points and unpredictable wiring.

BUT…..if they ever do go wrong it’s a real PITA to change them, like you say though, they don’t go wrong much.

Unfortunately this is a 'Choke' moke.

Seems to be the same as the pump for a Honda Avura.

The fuse in intact.

Seems to be something in the power supply to the pump.

The simplest way to check for a supply of electric is the good old fashioned bulb and length of wire. Just touch the feed wire onto the bulb while holding its other contact to the body. If it lights up you have a supply if not then you haven’t

Yeah, no one ever has to hit a mechanical pump to get it ticking again.

However as its a Choke, its anyone's guess. Surely the manufacturer's aftermarket support is second to none? They must be able to supply a wiring diagram, and I'm sure there is a substantial inventory of spare parts.
