Re: Lucas FW2 Wiper motor sweep angle
Hi Jan,
Took ages to set the arm up so that it didnt hit the screen frame! Then like you switched on and nothing just a whirling sound! then realised that the spindle wasnt engaged, so moved it a little it dropped into place and away the wiper went! I'm having to park the arm horizontal but just off engaging with the switch, as if I set it so I can engaged the switch it clouts the frame on full sweep. Hopefully when I get the new shorter arm and shorter blade, I will be able to set it up properly.
Chris

Re: Lucas FW2 Wiper motor sweep angle
Hi Jan,
Got the new wiper arm and blade and have just about managed to set it up, but its not been easy!!!
I think I'm going to need a new adaptor (spline to spindle) as the threads about had it now!

Re: Lucas FW2 Wiper motor sweep angle
My wiper arm and blade are almost completely straight - must measure exactly what it actually does in operation - mind you... I'm in Djibouti at the moment - it's hot' it's dry... so can't get uber worried about wipers at present off to Lake Assal tomorrow (yes this is work) google it

Hmmm,
Little box on the side of the body indicates 24V I believe

Re: Lucas FW2 Wiper motor sweep angle
from memory, when I helped a friend convert a 24v FFR Land Rover ( FFR military for Fitted For Radio ) I just took the dropper resistor out and the wiper worked on 12v. Land Rover, at that time where into modifying existing bits to fit on the FFR version, rather than a separate item. You could ask Neil the question.

Helpful thread! Now I just need to find a reasonable FW2, or someone to rebuild mine, and the gaskets, etc...

Re: Lucas FW2 Wiper motor sweep angle
It depends what is wrong with the motor. I made some major improvement to the one in my J type, just by stripping it down, washing out the 60 year old fossilized grease, polishing the commutator and re-assembling with some decent lubricant. It went from barely turning to running like a beauty.
If the insides are damaged - burnt out or whatever - then you may need a re-wind, but otherwise ther is a fair bit you can do yourself.

Can anyone confirm the shaft spindle length for a single wiper mk1 Moke. Have got a fw2 LR motor but think the spindle is longer.

Re: Lucas FW2 Wiper motor sweep angle
Hi Mikea,
Chris
I had to shorten the shaft to approx. 40mm.Wally2 wrote:Hi Jan,
Just fitted the new wiper motor and with my wiper arm (13") and wiper blade(11") its just touching the windscreen frame on full sweep (must be 110 degree) so if I go for a classic mini arm (11.5") and wiper blade (10") I should be ok! Shortened the shaft to 40mm.
