English Moke rear lights (reflectors)
Does any one know how many rear reflectors there should be on an English mk1 Moke?
I seem to only have one on the off side, it has passed the last 3 MOT's like it but having looked at photos on the gallery of other Mokes, they all seem to have a reflector each side.
Cheers
Chris

There should be two.... There should be a hole to mount one on the nearside..... Get one bought and see if your MOT man notices

Hi Tim,
That's because it spent 40 years in California, not because it is a Californian model! It is a 'proper' 1965 English but not the right colour! Should be Spruce Green (as it would have been in 1965), but I do prefer it in Old English White!
Cheers

Just checked on the Gov mot site and it does say that there should be two reflectors, so I've been on to our parts man Mr. Peacock for one.
Will be interesting next year to see if the MOT man notices!
Cheers

I must be an idiot. Tried several times to get the damn light lenses and chrome trim rings in. Messed up two rubber boots. Now going out with three little plastic tools, one rubber spatula, some wooden chopsticks and drink straws, with a tub of warm water and soap. Think I'll take the drink along also, or maybe not.
Who know the real trick?

Hi Peter,
They are a little tricky.
I tend to put the glass light lens in first by putting the bottom in first then running the blade of a small flat screw driver between the glass and the rubber, all the way round until the glass drops in place. Then you try and do the same thing with the chrome ring, as I say a little tricky!
Good luck
Chris

I got the lenses in fine, with soapy water and a shrimp de-veiner.
Now I will look for a small plastic screwdriver with a little short 45° bend at the tip, to use on the chrome trim ring.

Has the same problem when refitting mine, I used a generous smear of Vaseline and a flat well worn screwdriver to slide around lifting the rubber whilst pushing in on the lens or the chrome trim.. A bit fiddly but with lube it works fine ....James, not so good with the photos but thank goodness Chris is....
