What are these for?

Post by pbraun »

On a Mk1 Moke, installing a new wiring loom, there are two larger red wires coming out of the loom near the body plate, under the right side front wing, near the horn. Anyone know what they are for?

Then, this is a left hand drive moke, there is a hole near the feed hole for the wiper motor...... what goes in here? I have seen pictures that show a wire, but no idea what it might be.

Hi Peter,
I think these are the feed to the headlight on that side, check on the wiring diagram.

Hi, Chris,

Nope - got those more in front, different colors.
I thought maybe for the heater, which my moke doesn't have. ????

Still confused. Any idea on that firewall hole?

Hi Peter,
Have a look on prisonerfan photos, looks like he has a bung in that hole in the firewall, wires wouldnt be for a heater as it would be in the cockpit area. Will have a look at my moke when I get it back!

Red wires are for park/side lights and tail lights. They also run between the light switch and panel light switch.

My wiring diagram shows two reds joining to a single red where the front and rear looms join. One wire on the two side goes forward to the side lights the other to the light switch, the single wire runs back to the tail lights.

Hi I am rewiring a moke and have the same query, the two wires are on the side of the moke just in front of the horn wiring. I alsp have the wiring formation for the front and rear lighting as desribed but these others are a mystery.

Just been round to Dave Biss...adjusting a clutch on one of his fleet..........seen the wires, and I think you all have a standard mini loom, which includes interior light, operated by a door switch on the inside of the 'A' pillar.
If Mokes had doors...those wires would be necessary!!!

Mine has an interior light. A previous owner wired one on the dash. He used the same style as the front combination indicator/park light, but with a plain white lense, so I kept it. It can be quite handy sometimes. It doesn't come on when I open the doors though - much like the early minis.
