So tonight I found out what an inner race was. Tried to put the assembled hub onto the radius arm and couldn’t figure out why it would not go right on to the shaft. The inner race from the old bearing was still there. Some heat from my turbo torch, then my hammer and chisel sorted the problem.

This is what I used to remove the inner race. A bit of heat, used the chisel to separate the inner race from the shaft and in a couple of minutes it was off.

Hub fitted, castle nut, washer and split pin in place. I banged the grease cap too hard and dented it but it’s going to be replaced by an alloy one. Superfin alloy brake drums look good.

I started to assemble the rear suspension. The radius arms and the Hi Lo’s went in ok. When I offered up the Spax shock to the radius arm, the end wouldn’t go over the connection. I initially thought I’d got the wrong end on the Spax but after a quick consultation with all the Mokers on the internet I discovered an inner from the old shock absorber was still in place. That would be par for the course with this build, an inner from a bearing in the radius arm, the inner race on the hub shaft and now this. What next? A quick twist with a pair of vice grips and the inner came off letting me fix the Spax shock in place. Result!

When fitting the rubbers I noticed some dots on the underside. They all had three green dots but two also had a white dot and two had a pink dot. Are all the rubbers the same?

I’ve been wanting to put the wheels on for ages. I’m very pleased with the results.

They look, to me anyhow, like a set of dominoes my kids had when they were young. The coloured dots meant they didn’t have to count the dots in order to play

Coming together great there.
The inner tubes from the front lower control arm bushes can freeze on the pin and look like they are part of the shaft. Had me stumped once before.

I’ve been looking for a pair of low backed seats for ages. I’m going to cut the high packed seats down to suit unless I can swap with someone for a set of low backed ones.
