British Hillclimb Championship Barbon Manor July 1st

Post by David Hunt »

Mix some Moking with some speed and watch the contenders battle it out for top honours at the picturesque Barbon Manor Nr Kirkby Lonsdale.

Mokers would be given a display area part way up the hill along with a couple of other classic car clubs.

This could be a 1 day event on the Saturday or a weekend event with a camp site on the Friday and Saturday with a scenic drive on the Sunday morning.

Will firm up plans in the new year. Either PM me or post here if you think that this is an event you would support.

More info on the event can be found here http://www.barbonhillclimb.co.uk/.

And last years rather wet event here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40G1UaKKzyE . It doesn't always rain!

Plenty more action to view on You Tube

Update on the event is that it will be the Saturday only as there is a 40s weekend on in Ingleton that has swallowed up all the campsites in the area.

The club have been given an area half way up the hill in which we can "display" our Mokes and so avoid the general car park.

There will be an eclectic mix of racing cars, production cars & rally cars testing their skills on the ribbon of tarmac and it does get somewhat exciting as the top drivers blast their way up to the top hairpin in the hope of securing top honours. Follow the link for the 2016 event and/or search You Tube for further footage.

If you are interested in bringing your Moke to the event for the day then can you please let me know by emailing me with your name and registration number so that I can advise the organisers on how many to expect. (We are entitled to a reduced entry fee). email mokemembership "at" gmail.com or use the contact details in the last edition of Moking.

Although the event gets underway by 09.15 we can organise a slightly later arrival, meet at the Barbon Inn for say 10.00, so that all can go in together.

I hope that you can support this event so thank you in anticipation.

Not the final call but another call and update to anyone interested in attending. So far seven Mokes from the North of England are promised for the day. All we need now is a bit of sunshine.

The rendezvous has been moved to Devils Bridge on the A65 just outside Kirkby Lonsdale for 09.30 and then convoy to Barbon village from there.

Early arrivals can sample the delights of the bacon butties at the Snack Bar that has been a meeting point for car and bike enthusiasts for years. It has even featured in the"Two Fat Ladies" TV show.

Regrettably, the organisers of the event have pulled the plug due to the paddock being severely waterlogged. So it's no Moking at Barbon.

However, not to be done out of a day with the Moke Club everyone has agreed that a scenic drive is the next best option.
A slightly later time of 10AM at Devils Bridge for a meet, greet and coffee before putting pedal to the metal.

The hillclimbing may have been washed away but we still managed to gather six mokes a good helping go sun and some decent roads so it all made for a good day out......well, when the latecomers turned up it did!
Many thanks to David for arranging the days tour and welcome to the new faces that turned up to meet with us.

Thanks to everyone for turning out. Great run up to Tan Hill pub for a lunch halt. :D

Got a plan for Mokes to Wast Water taking in Wrynose and Hard Knot, once the holiday season in the Lakes is over. Open to all but especially North of England Mokers. Anyone up for it? :?:

Wally2 has posted some photos in the gallery for me. Thanks Chris
