Barbados '97 'fiberglass' moke.

Post by chelt67 »

Greetings,

Just returned from Barbados where I came across a 'fiberglass' 4 seater Moke. Owner says it's a '97 model, - the last produced there, so he says.

Plan to return in Jan 2016 and buy & get it running. Been lying up for only a year and a half and the mechanics look ok. Owner says engine & gearbox were ok when he parked it up. Clutch needs to be bled but there is brake / clutch fluid ( both full) Hopefully, all it needs is a good service. Not sure what engine capacity it is.

Engiine no. 99HG30256812.

Maybe someone can tell me what engine CC it is?

Once I know this, I'll buy a few spares here in the Uk - oil filter / points / brake/clutch seals.

Fiberfglass body + black soft top looks ok.

Didn't have time to take any pics!

Many thanks in advance

99H means it's a 998cc engine. But it won't be a Moke if it's glass fibre

Chelt67
That would be 998cc
Fibreglass and Moke are not normally found in the same sentence. Do you have any pics of this vehicle?
If it is fibreglass, it won't be a Moke...

It is not an original Mini Mole.

Are you sure that it is not a Hustler?

Nope, he's an honest old, Bajan guy who just wants it out of his driveway and only wants a mere £162! He bought another car as his wife cannot get in to it as there are no doors!

Doug,
Would that be similar to the Mole on Thunderbirds ?
But considerably smaller, what with being a mini mole !

Not a husler, just an elderly guy who bought another car for his wife who is unable to get into it as there are no doors. Square lights and curved windscreen. Ok I know it's not an original Moke but I don't care as it's a perfect vehicle to get around the island. Only £162! So for a £100 or more / less, I can get it running and have a LOT of fun with. He did say the clutch needs to be bled so I assume the clutch slave cylinder needs a rebuild.

Thanks again for the engine sixe. Now I can order the points + other service parts.

No, these were based on the Hillman Imp and produced in Antigua by Arawak Motors.

I have had the pleasure(?) of driving one.

I checked under the hood and it has the mini engine. It's a 4 passenger with soft top. Sides roll up with 2 square headlights + slightly cureved windscreen. So it's not an Imp. Not as nice looking as an original Moke buy hey, I don't care. As long as it drives!

Chelt67,
Any of the Moke-a-like kit cars will be a whole lot of fun and cheaper than a Moke to buy.
As long as you're happy with what you're buying and are aware that it's not a Moke, then crack on!
Pics when you've got it please.
