The very best of British, and Australian luck to you all on this epic trip.

The best practical advice I can offer, from my (limited compared to some) off roading moking experience, is to ensure you take 2 or 3 wire coat hangers.
Versatile, light weight, compact and brilliant for fixing broken exhaust hangers.

Oh, and a spare "Flojet" needle valve for the float chamber. It's tiny, but saves a hell of a lot of fuel if the old one starts passing!

Your the man Spider, I will need extra space for the beer required,( Its mainly water after all  ) so thanks mate. Its a long way between pubs :D

But on a serious note, rainfall seems to be normal for May, and above average for the next 3 months. so a bit dicey from then on and will need to be watched ( carefully).

Just beer?
Not taking a couple of bottles of sweet Sherry for the ladies then?
Rog is partial to a glass or two of that.

Wow another epic adventure in the pipeline there Spider :o . Knowing your efforts with the Cape trip and the back roads you took travelling to the west, I'm sure you will give this a good go. The Simpson crossing is a rugged trip even for a 4x4, it's on my bucket list for my fourby. I'm sure you will makie it across, or at least give it a really good shot. :D

Good day... As they seem to say a lot out here.
I had a fantastic flight out here, arrived as a convict as per Spider's pic. That seemed to set the scene for how things have progressed since, they simply don't write comedy like this any more.
A bit of several stories, but with four hours to go until we need to bark up the desert steed and get gone, we finally got it ready and all bar the last bits, loaded.
cutting a bit fine when you've had a touch of jet lag, but we're there.
Two hour kip now until we're back up again to grab the gear and go ! He's killing me this Spider bloke. Who's damned stupid idea was this? Or more to the point, what idiot agreed to it? Errr..... oh yeah, me. Dim wit thing to do.
We'll try to update on the first day's slog tomorrow night.

Until then fellow Moke travellers.

Rog
And Spider, who's already slinked off to bed. Typical damned Ausy trick.....

I am keenly interested in this grand adventure.

In 2011 - 50th year for Mini in OZ - I drove a 1973 Leyland Australia Mini Window Van around Australia in 70 days.

But almost all our kilometres were on tarmac.

We had 2 Minis and wives along so we were forced to observe some semblance of civilization.

Was hot crossing the Kimberley to Broome 40-46 C most days.

Water is your most precious resource.

Good luck!

I really hope you guys will do something on your great adventure for The BMC Experience / The Mini Experience. What a great trip. Last year on The Shitbox Rally, Brett and I decided to go and have a crack at Big Red with the Mini - but only got 5km out of Birdsville when the rear wheel fell off  Ah well, that is still on the "to do" list.

Roger, if you are coming through Melbourne on the way back or have some time here after the big adventure, it would be great if you could come and have a look at my Austin Ant. I'll even put on the billy for you. I've got some very interesting factory letters you might like to see as well.

Cheers,
Watto.
