Tyres

Post by peterbradbury »

Hi,

I'm in the process of getting my 10 inch steels refurbished so will be after some tyres soon! What do people recommend? Its a 67 built Moke so I would like something that will look as close to original as possible.

Cheers

Hi Peter,
Original Dunlop SP44 Weathermaster tyres are available but are expensive!

I've got Falken Tyres on my old steels as well as my alloys,

Mini Sport have quite a range for the 10" wheel.

You might also be interested in a thread running on the MKI Forum at present. One of the guys there can get a small run done of a particular tyre if there's enough interest;-

If you're looking for something as similar as you can get today to the original Weathermaster type tyre, have a look at Deamon-tweeks;-

 those hakkas might be ok for your neck of the woods spider but over here where we have real roads instead of dust I would think they would last about a summer and then be knackered

Yeah, but they look cool!

Actually, the Missus has similar but proper size tyres on her Moke. I thought we'd be lucky to see 6 months from them, but here we are some 4 odd years later and they have HEAPS of tread on them.

Well, there you go.

Are these the original compound too? I remember all too well they weren't brilliant in the wet.

Having bought a set of Weathermasters to treat the old girl my fitters complained like mad.

They said they were the hardest tyres they'd ever had to fit. Took them a good hour longer than they'd budgeted for.
