English specific moke parts

Post by Willie_B »

Just wondering what mini parts the are specific to the english mokes. I know about:

hand brake cables
rear brake drums
front upper arms

Still learning about the beasts.

The rear brake drums are,so far as I’m aware, the same as any moke ones. The upper arms too.
Thinking about it, the handbrake cables would be the same as Portuguese ones.....unless they have single front cable handbrakes

Well you could include engines (complete), indicator lights and steering column stalks(etc), radiators, clutch/transmission, dash instrumentation.

I changed from front brake drums to disk brakes and am immensely pleased with the decision and massive improvement in stopping ability.

Ah, but....he was asking about parts specific to the English type moke. The engine/transmission is pretty much universal

One of the reasons I am asking is that I have a new English moke shell to rebuild a 1966 one. I have a good bit of mini parts I have been using as the 66 is in bad shape. So before the old shell goes away I wanted to make sure any hard to find items are saved. I am not making the new build a show car or perfectly stock so I have no problems using mini bits but I would like it be mostly correct.

Anything that is different. I just learned about the front upper arms and rear brake drums. I would not have known to save them otherwise. The old moke was a Catalina Island rental one so it is in very sad condition so I have used other parts to build most of the running gear. New front and rear subframes. I did remove the locating tab/brackets on the rear of the rear subframe to add to the new one.

Wonder what the purpose of the raised bump stop part of the front upper arm is for? Maybe not let it sit too low when loaded?

Yes I am using the bonnet. About the only original body part I am able to use.
