Leak from gearbox driveshaft to gearbox

Post by imdodd »

Looking for some help please with my Austin Rover Portuguese Moke 1986 which has a serious leak between gearbox and driveshaft. The Moke lives in the South of France. We have owned it for 22 years, previous leak fixed 10 years ago. Garage owner says drive shaft is moving in housing, leak can’t be fixed without exchange gear box. Get the feeling he doesn’t want to do the job. Looks like the housing can be removed by 5 bolts, probably a bushes issue. Any advice, garage recommendation, Bormes Les Mimosas, Var?

Sounds like the Oil seal, which is in the cover. Relatively easy to do, if you have some tools, if not take it to Mokoncept. Jean-Georges is a good guy to deal with. Also get the other one checked, as well.
