Moke USA

Post by Doug G »

I tried to visit the website www.mokeusa.com

but it appears to have disappeared.

I wonder if it is a 'technical' fault or something more permanent?

Oddly enough, they claim to be starting up in Australia again "next year".

Yes, various mobs have been saying "next year" for what seems like decades. We've been talking about Chokes on here since 2007.

Moke International has had approval to import Chokes since 2013 under the SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles) scheme, but the vehicles are still meant to comply with our strict vehicle safety laws. The laws have changed a lot since the early '80s when Mokes were last built here. There must be some way you can register very low volume imports, but that would be the only way.

The current proponents say that they will be bringing in 56 Chokes in mid 2021. Apparently that number marks the 56 years since its launch in the UK - so they aren't very good at maths either.

The idea of the 56 was that they were aiming for a launch in 2020 which would make the numbers add up.......but we all know what happened to 2020!

Shells for Moke Int are, apparently built in Nuneaton, Warwickshire in the UK.

Hi Bill. 3rd paragraph, states about assembly in the English Midlands. I was surprised when I read it, as well.

ps. Grandtourer. I was offered 80 bare moke shells to assembly here in the USA.. that had been sitting in New Mexico in ware my house for past 3 years.. my guess these are the same moke shells being used for the 56 mokes being sold in the UK this year.. I know the parts to complete would be at least $5000 USD.. engine and tranny $1500 for the SQR 472 chery. plus assembly..which would be at LEAST $10k. per moke. $5000 per bare more shell.. I would have been real close to $25,000 USD and NO profit.. plus tag and title.. vin number title bond ect ect.. and then the dreaded product liability .. later bc
