Unfortunately my mechanic did not let me see or take pictures although I asked him to let me see when the head was off.

Yeah, that will do it. Usually they go in the centre. I cracked an 1100 block once. The Moke was stolen and thrashed by the thieves. It blew the gasket between 2 & 3, and I didn't realise. The block burned and cracked in the gap, forcing me to get a 1275, so it wasn't all bad.
