Fuel filler hose- Australian moke

Post by moking joe »

I am becoming more frustrated about not being able to easily fill up with fuel, its almost 2 man job, one looking at the fuel pump and one carefully holding the fuel pump nosel.

The spigot from the tank site about 5/6 mm above the rubber connector which prevents the the pump nosel from filling up without blowing fuel out etc. Is this common problem with the side entry
fuel cap, plus the narrow neck to the tank, 90 deg bend and fast fill fuel pumps.I have today tried to lower the tank slightly, but not sure how well this will work.I have packed the tank down from the 3 cross bearers that it is pushed up against, when fitted.

Has anyone else had this problem, should the tank be compressed against these bearers or is there a rubber strip, or is the rubber 90 deg elbow easily fitted with the wrong fitting?

Await yout thoughts.

I cannot believe that I am the only one that has this problem, its
clearly a design fault!

It is a common problem but I think most just grin and bear it (including me).
The angled rubber is also known to split and they are virtually unobtainable.

All I can say is ....Serves you all right for buying a fancy pants modern car instead of a Proper Moke with a filler cap where it should be

Has anyone sorted out a replacement rubber neck as mines split and as a temporary one been using a silicon turbo hose.

Yeap, common and silly problem / idea, that's why I converted mine to a top fill, just as Nigel suggested, I was just so over it

Also, for the room they take up, they waste an aweful lot of space.
Old Mokers never die, they just smell that way.

The filler on mine is in the top.

I can see right to the bottom, once I have taken out the 'placed in' metal tube with the metal mesh at the bottom.

I must check the current fuel level as the sender gauge is not working.

Mine looked like that too, and worked just about as well as yours, but after reading the how to article on the Mokewerx website and following the instructions I now have a fully functioning fuel gauge for the minimal cost of a couple of tiny brass nuts and bolts :D
