I have a heater!

Post by Wally2 »

Managed to get one of the old type heaters (with a flap to change air flow) from fleabay £14 plus postage. Looks a little rough but sure it will paint up ok. Just got to figure out how and what to mount it to.
Almost got it for 99p but someone put a late bid in, but not as late as my last bid.

Wesley in England the best time to buy such things as heaters, umberellas, wellies etc. is when the sun is shining as everyone knows here it doesnt tend to shine for that long!
Also just bought an Lucas FW2 Wiper motor!
I'm off down to Birminham area on Wednesday and guess what the weather forecast is - RAIN - you see QED!

Hi Chris. That heater was used in most early mini's, it mounted on the switch pane at the front and the support bar at the back. I fitted one to my English, many years ago. I modified the rear mount to go on the centre console.

Hi Graham,
Its the same type as I had in my first car - an ex gas board mini van. As I recall provided I blocked up the front grille in winter the heater did pretty well - ish, anyway, better than nothing! Will have to change the bottom hose, get some heater hoses, grommits for the bulkhead and a control valve (tap!) for the cylinder head! Did see one of the really old simple brass taps on e-bay but it went for over £20! wouldnt have to fit a heater knob then.

You could always get a simple take off from a late model mini instead of a valve, there would be no way to turn off the flow but with the top down I don't think that would matter much :)

Hi Chris. The brass taps on Ebay are not worth buying. The rubber O ring will have perished and they leak. Chris's reccomndation is a good one. With an open Moke you will have no problwm with the heater always on. Our Aussie has the heater always on, boost when you switch the fan on!!!!!!!

Pointless or not I'm putting a heater in!
Unit is now refurbished with a new coat of paint and is ready for action. Tested the fan and there is quite a good air flow, just need some hot water!

Just need to get hold of a cylinder head adaptor, new bottom hose with heater take off, two heater pipes and some bulkhead grommits. Decided against a cylinder head valve and just going for the simple pipe adaptor.

Quite true Doug....see, you can learn things on this forum! It's one way of improving cooling, putting a heater matrix into the cooling and fixing it near the front grille
