Removing fuel tank?

Post by whee »

How hard is removing the fuel tank in a 68 English Moke to replace the fuel sender unit?
Sounds easy from Haynes, but wanted to ask someone who has actually done it.

Thanks!

It's easy enough in a hard way!....... easy in that there's only about three bolts to undo that hold the tank in, but hard in that you'll need the moke up in the air to get in and do it plus it's a tight fit getting it out of the hole. Then again there's no other way of getting the sender out other than butchering the dividing panel apart (I've seen that before )
Oh, and try to make sure the tank is as empty as possible before you start.

Yes having removed my tank recently due to a total rewire for my 64 Moke, it's actually 4 bolts. 2 on the top and 2 on the inside. Drive your Moke onto some ramps if you have them, it makes the fuel easier to drain and gives you enough space underneath. remove the cover plate underneath approx 12 screw/bolts. There should be a drain plug at the back of the exposed tank. As our Chairman say's drain as much out as possible.

When it's empty just gently push down and give it a wiggle and out it comes.

Thanks folks. I'll get around to it someday. For now, my finger seems to be working well as the fuel gauge
