steering rack

is the steering rack on a 79 Aussie moke longer than English one?

Don't think it's longer but the turning circle was reduced on big wheel Aussie Mokes to avoid fouling on the inner panels. I've seen two different methods of how this was done: The fitting of spacer rings or longer bodied ballend housings.

I'm led to believe that the rack fitted to the later "Sports Pack" minis with 13" wheels had stops in them to stop similar rubbing problems. This is supported by the turning circle sizes in the service book.

I fitted a standed mini rake on my Aussie last year. The sport pack one will fitt put it has a reduced tuning circle.And its about £40 more. :P

The standard rack will work - don't get me wrong - its just that the wheels use the inner wings as stops instead of those in the rack. :shock:
