Wider wheels/tyres on an English

Post by Wally2 »

Looking at some 6 x 10" wheels and tyres to put on a Mk1 1965 English Moke, but do not know if they will fit, anyone know if they will? Have asked what the offset is but dont understand the system?

6x10" wheels with 165 tyres (I presume) won't be a problem

Nigel,
Wouldn't they stick out from the fenders a bit?
Shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't mind more water/mud getting tossed in yer face.....

I have a set of 145/10 stock wheels on mine with cooper s disks and it sticks out... granted I needed to use 5mm spacers and some grinding so the they wouldn't grind on the calipers.

It tosses a bit of mud :?

A set of Cooper reverse rims would fill the bill perfectly and give the proper retro look.......if you can find any !

I believe that UK laws require that tires (and/or rims) are not to stick out past the fenders.

Yes, that´s right. They fit really good together with the 165/70 tyres. They are available NEW i.e. at Minisport.
So getting some rims is no longer a problem and they look nearly identical to the original ones (I have both types on my cars).

Hi Daniel,
Have been looking on the Minisport site and Minispares but cannot find the cooper reverse rim wheels, what does 'reverse rims' mean?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLASSIC-AUSTI ... 3cd24aa2d0. Is what some one claims they are. But beware these are just standard rims  Reverse rims look the same as standard steel rims except they are wider and have round holes in them as opposed to the slots in standard ones

And the standard ones in that link won't clear the s front calipers without some work... and that work will likely cause the tires to poke out

These are the reverse rims copies also called LP883:
http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-par ... 1286S.html

I have these on my Moke since 2009 combined with 165/70-10 Yokohamas, the 7.5" disc brake and the wider brake drums plus 2x 20mm spacers in the rear. The tires are within the english standard wheel arches when negative kits -1.5°/-0.7° front/rear are fitted.

I will take some pics tomorrow if you like.

Daniel

PS: Did you know this site about Mini wheels?

A perfect way to look for or identifying wheels. There is also mentioned what the offset means!

Hi guys,
It looks from the wheeldirectory as though the reverse rims are in fact LP918 and not LP883. It looks from the pics that on the LP883's the wider flange is on the inside of the wheel whereas on LP918's the wider flange is on the outside i.e. the rims are reversed. So the copies available from Minispares and Minisport dont appear to be reverse rims, so the extra width must go to the inside of the wheel putting the wheel and tyre closer to the shocks and suspension.
Have I got this right?
