I'm not sure by how much but the Aussie arm is longer as you say. It also has two sets of needle roller bearings rather than the needle roller/bush arrangement on the standard mini one( same as a Portuguese moke on 12"wheels)
Don't forget the longer arms also mean different handbrake cables that are specific to those arms

The shock absorber attaches in a different way/location on an Aussie arm.

They are longer but I don't know what the current availability of them is. The Club had some about 15 years ago. The bolt holes are the same size as standard Mini and I'm sure you'll find many with standard Mini ones fitted.

Hi, I used Van/Estate Shocks on my Aussie Moke. They are a bit longer than standard Mini ones. There is a list of Shock absorbers on the Moke Werx website:-

Which also give the length of the Shock Absorber required.

Radius arms

Post by Martin108 »

I was going to refurbish the radius arms on my Australian Moke. I’ve watched the you tube videos about reaming bushes. Just saw this thread and noticed Nigel’s post about two roller bearings rather than the bearing /bush set up on a standard mini. Will the bushes be the same size or is the radius arm inner tapered like a standard mini.

Hi, the rear arms on my Aussie where refurbished before I got it, and they fitted the Bush and bearing.

G'day,
I cant really comment on the Portugese Moke trailing arm.
But the Aussie 13" trailing arm is longer than 10" Mini one.
The shock mount is the same distance back from the radius arm pin as the mini. So the extra length is the distance from the shockie bolt to the centre of the the rear axle stub.

Image

The rear shockies are the same length as the Wagon/Van/Estate, slightly longer than a standard Mini.
The Aussie Radius arm has 2 needle roller bearings.
When ordering a new trailing arm kit, be aware that the Mini kit is different. Not only because the Mini has 1 Needle roller and 1 Bush, but the centre grease tube is shorter to suit the extra length of the bush. If you fit the tube with 2 needle rollers, when you grease the trailing arm, all youl likely be doing is filling the hollow cavity in the trailing arm.

The steel tube is the original with 2 needle roller bearing. You can see how the bush would fit against the plastic tube to seal the grease ( somewhat) and force the grease out the bearings.

Probably not, they were an Australian Moke only item. That is why a lot have been repaired using bearing and Bush.

You could buy a Mini kit locally and order another needle roller to replace the bush.
Just check the length of the plastic tube. I used some clear 19mm hose that slips over the small end of the plastic tube to take up the 6mm gap.
