Master Brake Cylinder

Post by jackpinko »

I need a master brake cylinder that works, i don't mind what kind it is, tin can or plastic, it just needs to fit my 66 Austin Mini Moke.

Anybody have one they'd be willing to part with?

I have some......BUT they have been hanging round for many years and I wouldn't trust them without a rebuild. That aside all the new ones nowadays seem to be the plastic reservoir type. The metal ones cost megabucks (relatively)

Most second hand ones aren't much good. If they are only slightly worn you can sometimes just hone them and fit a new set of seals, but because they are so expensive to replace they are rarely removed unless the bore is pitted beyond a simple honing. You can get them re-sleeved in stainless steel, but its debatable as to whether that's cheaper than replacing them. Otherwise the ones with the plastic reservoirs seem to be pretty good, I have them on my Moke. I imagine that the repro metal reservoir ones are fine too, but a bit pricey.

Aye, I've got the plas ones on mine too. They do the job well enough.. Surely Mini related parts should be available in Sacramento ?

Alas I drove all the way up to Mini Mania up in Grass Valley today, about an hours drive for a repair kit for my tin can. Fantastic I was able to fix it and bleed the brakes, gona drive the moke tomorrow due to rain and lack of a roof

Thanks a bunch for the tips!

Cool that's the go.

Only one hours drive from Mini Mania? They're practically on your doorstep. The nearest parts supplier to me would be 4 hours drive and an overnight ferry crossing, and even then they aren't very comprehensive. Needless to say, I do a lot of mail-ordering.

I know! I had no idea, I was about to order it online then discovered they were about an hour away.

Kinda funny though when I showed up I'm pretty sure they thought they were gona have the day alone and decided to get a little buzzed
