Paint colour?

Post by Wally2 »

Hi, I'm having difficulty matching up the colour of the moke! I need some touch up which a local supplier can provide if I give him the paint code. The chap tha restored it tells me that it is Austin Old English White but he cannot find the code number, anyone help? I thought that pehaps with a sample panel (side cover) that the supplier would be able to 'analyse' it with some electronic gizzmo and come up with the code but all he has are colour samples none of witch seem to match.

I've just been talking to a friend who has an MGB in old english white, it seems that there are 23 different shades of it, possibly 1 for each year it was used! You'll need someone who has a good 'eye' for matching colours if that is the case.

Hi. I have had paint matched and mixed for an old VW, by Paint Store in Leamington Spa. Only problem is they need the vehicle, or a panel. Side box lid?

If there's that many variants..... I'd go for Snowberry white..... personally, I have seen quite a few 'white' mokes.... and I think anything white with a 'hint of' cream will do. Who's actually going to turn up with a spectrometer or colour computer to tell you it's 0.3% more blue than the official RAL spec? The arguments for OEW or Snowberry....... the other Mk1 colour was Dover Grey - GR 34..... could be a goer?

That was for the wheels.

Could be nice for car too  it's in the body service parts manual.... doesn't say wheels, just 'revised information'. I thought it must have been a trendy alternative

Hi all, the chap that restored my Moke contacted me as he had found the colour code, which was NDB Old English White. Went to the paint suppilers with this information and yes he could make some up to that, so I had a couple of spray cans. The colour match is great! Supplier is Jawel Paints, Unit 7 &8, Yeoman Ind. Est., Wharf Road, Burton-On-Trent, DE14 1PZ.
