Lucas push button solenoid

Post by Robin Jones »

After years of looking, I finally found one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-SOLENOI ... true&rt=nc

And, I wound up as high bidder. And, yes, I know that I paid too much.
It is exactly like the one originally on my '67 Moke. I foolishly tossed mine in the trash when it failed only to find out later that they can be taken apart & rebuilt.
My experience with the current round shaped solenoids is that they are crap and will leave to you suffer the indignity of a push start.

The question is; When was this fitted as standard on Mokes?
And, was it ever standard on Minis?

Hi Robin. My '69 Mini Van has one of those fitted to it, was on it when I pulled it out of the Barn, it was in.

Hi Robin,
Dont know about Mokes but according to Somerford minis
http://www.somerfordmini.co.uk/eshop/in ... page&id=71
The round one with the rubber covered end push button Lucas 2ST(like the one on my 65 moke) was fitted to minis 64 - 67 and the square one Lucas 4ST like yours was fitted to minis 67 - 85.
Cheers

Yes but, this one off of flea-bay is a square body with a pushbutton.
Currently available from the usual suppliers is the square body without pushbutton, round body without pushbutton or round body with pushbutton. The last being a crap part that will leave you bump starting....

Hi Robin,
I think the one from Somerford is the same as the one on fleabay, if you click on the buy now button you get a slightly better pic and it looks like there is a push button on it, it also gives the same part number.

The one's I've seen have a round raised area on the plastic where the pushbutton used to be....
I was very disappointed to find this out as you would expect the same part as it uses the same part number.

In the end though, I suppose that the only advantage of the pushbutton feature is that you can run yer foot over while bumping the starter.

Hi Robin,
You are right, I've looked at other suppliers and they all have the button covered over, but I think the one from Somerford has the button, you'd have to ask.
Hope it does the job, please you got me looking as my round one has lost the rubber cover for the button and lo and behold Somerford actually sell just the rubber cover!! I'd looked all over but could only find complete units for sale, obviously didnt look at Somerfords!
