Hello chaps,

Please may I introduce myself as a new member to the club, forum and Moke ownership. I might like some assistance from you all in due course if you don't mind. I'm not new to specialist/classic car ownership but the Moke is something else.

Nick; based in Warwick and sometimes in Norwich. I've just purchased a Dec 67/Jan 68 RHD English Moke. (Heritage certificate) It's in poor condition but with an MOT as of earlier this week. At least there's no smoke pouring out of it!

At this early stage would anyone like to recommend an insurance company/policy?

Many thanks,

Nick

That's very kind of you Nigel, thank you.

Insurance sorted. Would welcome the opportunity to catch up when you're all back. Have a good time.

Hi Nick,

Like you I am a new member, but owned a Moke in 1968 which I bought from Runamoke. I am now reliving my "childhood" and have just bought a 1990 Portuguese Moke from ....... Runamoke. I have just insured my Moke with Carole Nash but am not certain if I have got a good deal. Can I ask who you insured your Moke with and how much the insurance cost. Mine has cost £167 fully comp but does include legal expenses cover and breakdown cover.

Thanks for your help, in advance

Welcome in :D always good to see a new face. About the insurance, £167 isn't that bad really, the most important bit is having agreed value for your moke. Other than that there's so much that depends on where you are and what your history is etc etc etc......to compare quotes

Hi,
I am insured with Carole Nash, an English 1965 Moke, 5000 miles per year, agreed value, UK and Europe breakdown cover £123.64 this year (July). If asked, CN will give up to 15% discount if you tell them you are a member of the Moke Club, try asking for a refund on what you have paid. Any problems ask to speak to Peter Mcllvenny or e-mail him on PeterMcIlvenny@carolenash.com.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for all that info. When I checked my insurance details (after downloading it) I find that the actual premium is £94 based on 3000 miles pa and there is a further “addition” of £36 for breakdown cover. So, all in all I don’t think the premium I eventually paid was too bad - certainly better than the £227 that they originally wanted. Goes to prove that it pays to haggle.

I’m looking forward to getting out in the Moke and after selling my BMW Z4 with a 2.5 litre engine I don’t think speeding will be too much of an issue!

I will email the contact at CN as you suggest.

Thanks again.

John
