Is this a Moke

This little Moke style van Q838FLD has recently been for sale with a coach company in Essex according to dvsa its licenced as a Comet. Is it a BLMC Moke or a clone, a kit car possibly. It had previously been owned by City Sightseeing in the Margate/Ramsgate area presumably as a publicity vehicle.

During the late 60's and early 70's Mini running gear was used for all sorts of odd vehicles. This looks like someone has been give a brief. Small box van, probably to tow a passenger trailer, and this is the result. the most famous Mini conversions where the Outspan Oranges

It was first registered in May 1985, and the fact its on a Q plate suggests that it was built by a company specialising in building bespoke vehicles rather than a private individual who would probably have continued to tax it on the original donor Mini registration. It looks to have had a single vehicle approval hence the Q plate.
There is a badge on the grille which again suggests a commercial builder, the make on DVSA is COMET, but I can find nothing on that name on Google

The company recently selling it (Talisman Coaches in Essex) were advertising it as a Moke resembling an open top bus, I think it was used by previous owner City Sightseeing as a promotional vehicle to advertise the open top bus trips around the Maidstone area, but cant have ventured out much as there are no pics of it (that I can find) on Flickr or Google.

I have obtained the VIN number its SABLVL03525127005 So can anyone identify what the doner vehicle was?

Well this thread seems to have run its course with no positive identification, its obviously not a genuine Moke and as such no interest in it on here, thanks anyway BFN John
