Mini Moke Club 2018 AGM

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting – 21st October 2018

Meeting opens at 1300hrs.

Present - Nigel Sykes (NS), Mark Peacock (MP), Paul Hancox (PH), Karen Hancox (KH), Paul Upton (PU), Chris Waldram (CW), Aubrey Thomas (AT), Dave Hunt (DH, Nigel Jones (NJ), Roy Scott (RS), Richard Crowe (RC), Hilary Leafe (HL)

Apologies – Mike Cook (MC), John Bastin (JB)

Attendance – 22 members attended (+ Malcolm and Andy Woolhouse joined at 1325hrs)

Minutes of 2017 - were issued and accepted by all.

Matters Arising

Membership Item 3 – DH - had spoken with Ian Hodgson about some other memberships he paid for. Ian said the members wanted to receive the magazine so he would continue to do so.

Membership Item 4 – Graham Thomas – asked if there had been any progress about digital presence of the Club as many seemed to be deserting Facebook. RC replied that the website was currently being looked at which was more important.

Chairman’s Report - Nigel Sykes(NS)

1. NS reported that 2018 had been a busy year with long-distance meetings.
2. 2018 had seen the introduction of new rubber parts for Australian Mokes.
Gold Badge Awards – NS

1. NS had not received any nominations for this award. However he recognised that Graham Thomas had given sterling service to the Club over the years and was consequently being given a Gold Badge.
Treasurer – David Hunt – presented and explained the accounts in detail and explained his notes comprehensively. Some questions were raised and all were answered adequately. In particular

1. To the noted drop in regalia sales, Martin Savage suggested that it would be good to advertise it via a flyer in the magazine. RC questioned the value or need of regalia these days.
Jez Betts commented that the accounts are now in much better health than she can ever remember and all agreed and accepted this. Phil lamb (respected former Treasurer) had seen and approved David’s work. Copies are held as a matter of record.

Membership – David Hunt – DH advised that we currently had 532 paid up members, 7 complimentary and 4 Honorary. We send out 543 magazines. He then commented on

1. With continued rising costs, DH recommends a 10% (£2.00) increase in the Membership fee. There was much heated discussion about this which finally went to the vote resulting in 11 FOR and 11 AGAINST with 1 Abstention. The Chairman’s casting vote resulted in Membership costing £22.00 from the end of the meeting.
2. Once again DH thanked the continued efforts of Dave Margison who is a great help to the Club in Australia.
Officer’s Reports

Editor – Roy Scott – RS said there had been 5 magazines in 2018 and thanked all who supported it. He advised that the print quality was now better. He had co-opted HL to assist with various tasks.

1. A calendar for 2020 had been suggested. NJ proposed that it should be of good quality and a vote was taken. 2nd by Martin Savage – all agreed.
Publicity – Richard Crowe

1. There was some discussion about the Club logo. RC agrees that the logo is strong and should be used as much as possible. He sends monthly bulletins to as many magazines as possible. He particularly asks any event coordinators/organisers to advise him of any events the club will be attending so he can publicise it, particularly if Club name will be evident.
2. RC proposes that money is spent improving the club website. NJ 2nd, with a limit of £3-4K being the limit - vote taken and all approved.
Events - Paul Hancox

PH stated that it was getting more difficult to get people to attend events. This was possibly age, cost or familiarity. However the events we have had proved successful. He was sure that an improved website and Facebook would enable better contact.

Spares – Mark Peacock

1) MP (overseen by NJ) advised that old stock of bonnet toggles had been destroyed and sent for recycling. New stock is clearly marked as “2018”.
2) Australian side flanges, mudflaps and new toggles were available for viewing.
Registrars

a) English – MP - Nothing to report
b) Australian – JB - No report available
c) Portuguese – RS cannot get speedy cooperation from Mark Vellenoweth, so information available will be less.
Regional Reps

Midlands – CW – standing down. Thanks for support in wider areas.

Wales – AT – 20 cars attended Welsh weekend

Heart of England – PU – Piston and Props weekend successful

Election of Committee – As all remaining members of the Committee were prepared to stay in their posts, it was proposed to jointly re-elect them. Accepted by all the Members.

Thanks for minutes these Nigel,

It's useful to be reminded of what we discussed a year ago. However in these ever changing times may I state that I am a white heterosexual male !

Many thanks
