What sort of tyres are people using for the 13” Australian Moke wheels.

I seem to recall that the steel rims use either 145 or 155 X 13” ratio tyres so it’ll be more a case of finding what’s available

I have been using 175 70 R13 tires on my Aussie Mini Moke.

Was wondering how 195 70 R13 tires would affect it.
Having a moking good time!

I have an Australian MOKE. I thought my 'Californian’ came with 8-spoked ‘Sunraysia’ steel wheels in white. I have since been told my wheels weren't Sunraysia but were Weller steel wheels. I am trying to import my Moke into Spain but at the ITV (MOT) inspection I was told that the tyres 175 60 13 are too small. The Spanish testers said that my tyres should be 175 80 13. Will these tyres fit my Moke with the longer trailing arms? The adhesive panel under the bonnet says the tyres should be 175/R/13. I have already changed the front brakes from 8.4 Discs to standard drums as that is the way it came out the Assembly Plant. Everything else has passed the test except the Tyres. Meanwhile, does anyone have a set of 4 Sunraysia wheels. I will be able to put the Disc Brakes back on after I pass the Import test as in future they will only test the efficiency of the brakes.

Thanks for reading this epistle & I look forward to any help you can offer.

Thanks, Eamonn.

Not having my moke with me at the moment I can’t check what size tyres are actually on it but if memory serves correct the standard fitting from the factory was steel rims, that are very similar to mini steel ones, fitted with 5.6 x 13” crossply tyres for basic mokes and 175R13 tyres on the “Californian” model.
I wouldn’t think 175/80x13 tyres would cause too many problems….getting hold of sunraysias may well be though. What’s wrong with a set of alloys?

Thanks Nigel,

The wheels that are on the car look enough like the Sunraysia to not draw attention. I will look at alloy wheels when the test is done & it is on Spanish plates.

The Traffico department in Malaga originally told me that they didn't have any any details on Mokes on the computer system. I brought the two Moke books from Ireland & also gave them details on the hire Mokes in Sotogrande, another I knew in Marbella that is looked after by Jock of English Mobile Mechanics fame, & another in Torre del Mar. I had to provide the Specifications on the Australian Moke. That's where the drum brakes reared its head.

Anyway, thanks for the details on the tyres. I didn't want to buy 4 tyres & find out they rubbed on the trailing arms.

Eamonn.

Don't know whether this helps but my early Portuguese ( Aussie bodied) had 165/13 fitted from new, which would be 165/70/13, Mick.

175/80 R13 should fit no worries. Wider and taller tyres tend to rub inside the front wheel arches before the rear becomes a problem.
