Every since.. Dr Aaron Richardt had 78 Land rover Defenders SEIZED in 2015..( you can do google.com search for him) US Customs has been rabid about enforcing a rule of about ALL cars and trucks must have the OEM engine.. or of same year..both Vin numbers matching if 1980 or newer..and of course everything matching like Color on the V5 / UK title.. The cars/ trucks.. can and will be Seized.. and crushed.. that do NOT comply... check out the videos. on utube. also No swapping from RHD to LHD. or vehicles cut down in length or made into cabrio.. same deal. these are not OEMs..the ninth digit tell you whether it was RHD. on the land rovers. and Minis..( www.clifton.nl) . later bc

My friends car is being sent back to the UK.. NON DOT marked replacement headlights.. and too many mods on a OEM engine..

Doug.. there is CBP / US CUSTOMS form 3499.. Manipulation . which allows you to hire third party and take off the NON DOT items.. such as headlights.. windscreen. seat belts.. brake hoses or brake Master Cly. or non DOT tyres.. and can assign to FTZ. Foreign Trade Zone also to take off the NON DOT parts or even the engine and tranny out. the problem is finding someone BONDED inside a FTZ... later bc

UPDATE. it was confirmed that Land Rover North america..is the new paid EXPERT on imports.. seems every LR 110 or LR 90 has dozens of photos taken at the port of arrival and someone at LR NA is looking for ANY non OEM parts.. even one part can make the LRs can make it so approval for entry the USA will be DENIED.. No detals yet on the classic mini and mokes.. but my they are using www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk archives again... later bc
