Re: Correct badge for an 1973 Aussie style Mini Moke?
Well the little strip of aluminium badge on the front above the grille on my Mini Moke says 'AUSTIN' while the wood insert (when I bought the Mini Moke) in the steering wheel had 'BMC' scratched in it.
I sanded the steering wheel insert and painted it the same green as the bodywork. Now due for a re paint.
So is AUSTIN or BMC correct, or are they both wrong.

In Australia in 1973, it would have been a Leyland Moke, with this badge.
As far as I'm aware this subtly different badge was never used on any Moke (or Choke).
I think the original steering wheel looked like this in 1973, but I'm not sure what the center badge said. Maybe a Leyland bath plug, it shouldn't have been BMC by that stage.
There was a slightly earlier two spoke steering wheel with a triangular rubber pad in the middle that had either a BMC or a Leyland badge in it, I'm not sure if they went through to 1973.
No Australian market Minis or Mokes were badged Austin. They were all badged as Morris (or BMC) until about 1971 and Leyland after that. However Australia did make Austin Minis and Mokes for export. Some Austin Mokes were sent to Malaysia in the late '60s or early '70s, so it is possible to have an Australian built Austin Moke. I'm not sure what badge they used on them.

Appreciated Dean.
That Mini Moke (mine) in the pic was locally 'restored', so I was questioning what is the correct badge.

Thanks Dean,
I will repaint the wood centre block insert of the steering wheel to match the body colour.
