When the clutch operating mechanism wears, it becomes less and less likely to slip (i.e. not even with the pedal pressed in). If its slipping, its probably because the clutch plate is worn out The only adjustable thing that could cause it to slip is if the small bolt half-way down the clutch throw-out arm was adjusted a really long way out so that it was pushing the arm outwards, but this would be very unusual. If adjusted correclty there should be a small clearance between the head of the adjustment bolt and the arm, when you pull the arm out as hard as you can.
