Brake fluid

Post by Farmer »

Hi,
I am restoring my 1965 English Moke and I have fitted a completely new brake and clutch system. This is the time to fill with standard or silicone brake fluid. We all know standard brake fluid has its problems. I understand that silicone has some too. It is slightly more compressive and gives a spongy feel to the pedal. Also it can fail to work the brake pressure switch and a special one must be sought out. A benefit is that it is non corrosive to the paintwork. Does anyone have experience with using silicone ? If so please post your advice. Thanks

While rebuilding Hilary’s moke I intended to use the same stuff but I noticed that minispares say their master cylinders are unsuitable for use with silicone fluid ! Odd thing is the minispares master cylinder in my Aussie has been full 0f it for a few years now with no problems

Used Silicone fluid in several Minis and Mokes. had no problems with it, and will be using it in the current Clubman Estate project.
