Shocks
I suspect that my front shocks should really be replaced.
What is the specification/# that I should ask for?
Do I just take off the old one and see if the auto spares supplier can 'match' it?

Re: Shocks
If you're buying local, I think if you ask for a pair of front shockers for a (classic) mini they will do the job

Re: Shocks
Whats the recommendation for rear shocks? If I read some Oz forums they talk about a compressed length of 255mm (?) and the need for mini van/pick -up shocks but for larger wheels? What that I need for a 67 Moke - some shocks for van/pickup?
Also it was suggested that I don't go for hi-los... so anyone got some good brands/models of shocks to go for front/rear for road use? (but definitely good for corners and roundabouts)

Re: Shocks
I was advised against hilo's by some owners in Australia,If i remember right i think they said the rear rod for the hilo can bend and damage the radius arm,i do have a set for my moke but have not fitted them yet,but I'm still building it,i have seen several mokes with them and run without problems.

I’d agree, I’ve got them fitted to mine and never had a problem with them. I guess it’s down to how “off road” you’re prepared to go

Re: Shocks
I don't think there was an argument against - just advised not to

Guess if I'm going for new cones as well then hi-los make it easier to lower the Moke whilst its still running the cones in? (so what brands are advised? Think I read KYB are supposed to be ok?

Re: Shocks
Loads of people use Hi-Los in big-wheel Mokes with no issues. I've been running MiniSport Adjusta-Rides on mine as part of the Moulton Smootha Ride kit. They've been on there for 22 years so they seem OK.
I'm no expert on shock absorbers for Mokes, but when i bought the Smootha Ride Kit I asked them what shock absorbers they recommended for big-wheel Mokes and they suggested the kit that was designed for sports-pack minis (the ones with big wheels). They must have been OK because they are still on there too. They only seem to offer a single option for the kit now though.
A good place to research what is available is Minisport Australia (unrelated to Minisport UK). They offer a lot of Moke stuff, and they seem to list the same shock absorbers for both Minis and Mokes (you can assume that means 13" Mokes). https://minisport.com.au/search?q=moke+ ... ix%5D=last

Ah but my Moke is a 67 English so dinky 10in wheels not biggies... does that make a difference to the discussion re: hi-los?

Re: Shocks
10" Mokes have all the same suspension as 10" Minis, so anything that works on a Mini should be fine.
It seems like new cones make everything sit up taller, at least until they compress a bit, so the hilos are useful in cancelling that out, but a bit of extra height is a lot less obvious in a Moke than a Mini, so probably isn't necessary.
There is an argument against using hilos to lift up a car that has badly compressed cones, perhaps that is what was meant? Once the cones compress so badly that you are down to the bump stops, just jacking it up on hilos doesn't restore the function of the suspension, it will still be rock hard, and without the bump stops as a back-up you could break something.
