Doug,
Long distance, blind diagnosis is a difficult task...
Do you have any idea of why you wound up with an "air pedal" instead of a brake pedal?
Reason for asking: It would be a shame to see you spend good money expecting a result only to find that there's something else wrong. (rear wheel cylinders, brake pipes/hoses/fitings, and the master cylinder all spring to mind)

Mini MOke has new master cyliner and hoses. The pipes etc do not leak.
The front left slave cylinder has some 'string' wrapped arround the inside of the rubber. to stop it leaking past.
The brakes have never worked well and my life is worth more than a few hundred quid.
I want to be able to stop when I want to stop.
Having a moking good time!

Re: Brakes - It's decided
I ran my original mini for years on dual leading shoe drum brakes that were quite adequate for the job of stopping. If everything is good including hoses and slave cylinders, and the drum brakes are properly adjusted you should have brakes as soon as you press the pedal. Even with disk brakes if the rear brakes are out of adjustment you will need to pump it, as the pumping will be pushing the shoes in to the drum as once you stop pumping the springs would pull them back away from the drum pushing the brake fluid back into the master cylinder... somewhat like a hydraulic jack that slowly leaks down and requires constant pumping to keep a car lifted up.

I guess that I should record with pics and notes the conversion.
Then submit it as an article for possible inclusion in'Moking'
