Does anybody know where I can obtain a genuine side battery cover for an English moke. I mean the panel with the four bolt holes in it. The version that did not have a hinge.

There are those who go there but not here (if that makes sense)

From the classifieds section...

Has anyone got a side battery cover for an English Moke. The one with four bolt holes in it and a cut out from one corner. NOT THE COVER WITH THE HINGE!!
Dave Biss
I believe the one with a cut out from one orner is an early Australian type, no cut out or hinge is English.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Andre,
I hope you are wrong as I have two English Mokes both with the same side battery cover detail, one 1965 and one 1966.

I think the side-screens where different.

Hope you can see it on the detail pic.

Battery covers do rust, they might be replaced over the years.

That's just the same as mne - I always wondered which way up it went ! And look at those shiney grab handles and hood stays (I wish mine looked like that)

Yep, the cutout goes at the top to clear the toggle that holds down the leading edge of the rear side cover.

Unfortunately someone resprayed my car with the cover on upside down, when I ditched the hard top and fitted the soft top I had to put it on the right way up, so I have a small primer coloured patch in the lower corner now.

The ones with the cutout corner are still available new in Australia. If that was your only option, I suspect it would be easy to weld a replacement piece back in.

Now I am confused!! What did the original side battery cover look like on a 1965/66 English Moke?

YOU'RE CONFUSED !!! Today I went in the garage and turned my battery side cover over (seems I've had it upside down all this time ) Now the cut out is at the top you can see into the battery compartment
What will happen when I go fording through the next river ??

Your battery gets topped up on the move.A bit like mid flight refueling.
