Boot assembly

Post by Wally2 »

I notice in the moke club members spares catalogue that there is a boot assembly BHM9761 @ £72 and a Boot lid bracket BHM 9763A @ £12. The description says it was a Cagiva Moke fit but that it can be added to previous Moke models and that it provides a secure and lockable boot compartment. Has anyone installed one of these on an English Moke? and if so is it sucessful? Pictures of one installed would be very useful.
Cheers

What about something like this:

http://barlowtrailers.co.uk/Online_Part ... lbox-10532

Aluminium Chequerplate Lockable Toolbox 10532 26 x 9 x 9 inch

Comes with handle to enable carrying.

You could bolt it to the moke floor behind the rear seats or have it with a quick release clip (or two) inside at the bottom.

That looks pretty smart Doug, could do with one just a little larger, but will certainly look into it, thanks.

Everything except the one thing that will end up failing and stranding the Moke at the side of the road? That is the normal spares to carry isn't it? ;)

Have noticed that on M-Parts site for the complete Portuguese and Cagiva bodyshells, they appear to come with a boot assembly, so I've asked them if they will supply the bits needed to put one on mine.
We will see if they are willing to supply!

Received a curious response from M-Parts re bits for the 'boot', it reads:-

''Thank you for your email, the answer to your question is yes and no. They will fit but you will have to do so much work to make it fit.The floor will have to be moved for a start, it really is not worth all the hassle. I suggest that you fabricate something and have it made locally to fit your Moke, far easier.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.''

Haven't a clue to what they mean about 'moving the floor'? if the end plate is too long it could be cut down, strange but there we go.

From my experiences with M-Parts they dislike the idea of modifying a moke from stock... Unless it's the reinforcement plates on the sides and underneath then they tend to dislike the idea of rebuilding it to the original factory specs. I had a heck of a time convincing them I didn't need or want all the extra bracing and seat belt mountings for my 65. Also they had agreed to pre-weld some panels together for me but backed out of it when they couldn't imagine me assembling it with them pre-welded... as it doesn't assemble in that order in their jig. *shrug*

Hi Chris,
Yes they do not seem Moke friendly do they! As they have suggested I get somone to fabricate something, I've asked them for some drawings for someone to fabricate something to! Will not be holding my breath though.

Chris, if you are at the 30th, why not measure one up. I know John G is going and his boot is easily accesible.

Hi Graham,
Great idea, I didn't know that someone had a boot on their Moke!
