Mk 1 English Moke Hood

Post by jonnieg1x »

Hi, I have a very basic question, how does the webbing attach to the roof hoops and the Hood attach to the hoops ?
Has anyone got an idiots guide with pictures / drawings to help.

Best regards

If you look on the hoops you should see some holes where the straps are pop riveted to the frame. The straps just pass over and rivet on. On ours only the front 2 are fastened this way. The rear one is on the tension strap only with the straps goining over. But I think it needs also fastenig the same way.
The hood just sits the top of all this

As a footnote. I didn't write the above, I handed it to my daughter as she's the one who fitted it to her Moke. The other point is make sure you have some help on call apparently it's a six handed job!!

John,
Did you get the guide?

I am on the verge of fitting my Mki hood and am not sure where to start.

Where do you rivet the web? And the top? (Hood)

Anyone have good photos?

Got my hood fro Run-a-Moke, lost any instructions over course of restoration.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a super group and resource.

Thanks!

Hi Peter,
Have a look at M-Parts see if this helps.
http://www.m-parts.co.uk/index.php?rout ... 71_124_125
Mine is similar but is I cannot adjust the tension as the straps are riveted to the top rails and press studs on the rear panel. I can take some pics tomorrow if you need them.
The hood is press studs on the rear panel and to the two centre frames, then its just the 'lift the dot' fasteners to the top of the windscreen frame. I also had some extra fabric sewn in above each roof rail which then wraps around and Velcro fastens to itself, these stop the hood billowing out at 'high' speed!!

Cheers

Hummmm not a good view of the Mk I hood. Still can't see where to rivet the webbing to the frame, then the hood to the frame. wondering if that is all really necessary.

Hi Peter,
Some photos for you but bear in mind that the hood on my Moke was made in the US and is not a standard hood but the straps are similar to standard (I think!).

Hope these help, if you need any more pics let me know.

Awesome, Chris.

I am understanding this much better now.

Think I will need 3 friends for this job! HA ha....

Is that strap plus hood why the 3rd stud from the end, on windscreen surround, is longer?

Hi Peter,
Yes the 2 longer pins on the windscreen frame are for the straps and the hood! Also mske sure that when you rivet the straps to the cross rails that the rivet pin breaks in the rivet and does not leave some sticking up as these will put holes in the hood, just like it did on mine!

I think I got it all straight now, have laid things all out, etc.... But I will probably wait until it warms up to put the hood out in the sun when actually doing the final fit and drilling for the rear panel screws. Thanks for the help.

Three guys, the hood didn't have a chance. Install done. Now I need an easy way to adjust it. Anyone have a proper diagram for the webbing?

Hi Peter,
Hood looks great, the only photos of the strapping are on M-Parts web site address in my previous post.
My straps do not have any adjustment, they hook on the pins on the windscreen surround, pop riveted to the rails and press stud to the rear valance. I reduced the 'flapping' of the hood at speed by getting material strips with Velcro on stitched into the underside of the hood so it fits tight to the rails (see photos above).
Cheers
