My Mini Moke might need a 'new' 998cc engine.
How does one source these?

One goes on e-bay and digs very deep into one's pocket.

Re: NEW ENGINE ?
Hold the horses. Whoa !
Have received some sort of good news.
Mechanic advises that it could be that a bolt(s) on flywheel have loosened and one may have dropped off.
Fingers crossed.

Re: NEW ENGINE ?
Whoa, that's not supposed to happen.
Some of the early flywheels are bolted together in two parts, but most are a one piece construction. The bolts holding them together are torqued at the factory then staked (the ends are punched) to prevent the nuts from ever coming undone. Its more likely that the main bolt holding the flywheel to the crank has loosened. That's not meant to happen either, but can, if not properly tightened. It would have some interesting effects on the engine running and clutch operation, I reckon.

Re: NEW ENGINE ?
Tim, you have overlooked the local mechanic input.
When the starter is operated there is a 'tinkling' sound from the engine.
We are removing the engine and doing a thorough investigation.

Re: NEW ENGINE ?
Hopefully its no more serious than the flywheel having come loose, and that the taper on the crank tail is not significantly damaged. In that case it should be a simple matter to just torque it back up. Depending on how it looks you may want to get the clutch done while its apart.
Incidentally, you don't have to take the engine out to get the flywheel off. Its less fiddly if you do, but it can be done in the car. The hardest part is pulling the flywheel, but it sounds like that part is already done for you.

Re: NEW ENGINE ?
Thanks.
Don't want the flywheel off, just want it properly secured.
Anyone have a Youtube link on how to do it ?

Re: NEW ENGINE ?
There’s no end of them if you put “classic mini flywheel fitting” in the search bit on YouTube
